Warangal: Ponugoti Niranjan, a 17-year-old devoted fan of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, after a prolonged battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Fondly known as “Gabbar Singh” in Hanamkonda because of his unwavering admiration for Pawan Kalyan and the actor’s blockbuster film Gabbar Singh, Niranjan had become a well-known face among the actor’s fan community.
Pawan Kalyan Visited Niranjan Days Before His Death
Just days before his demise, Pawan Kalyan visited Niranjan at his residence in Hanamkonda. During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister spent time with the teenager, enquired about his health, discussed his hobbies, and interacted warmly with his family members. The gesture was widely appreciated by fans and netizens, with many praising the actor-politician for taking time to meet his young admirer.
Niranjan Had Been Battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Niranjan, the son of Ponugoti Ramu and Manasa from Pegadapalli Dabbal in Hanamkonda, had been bedridden for the past three years after being diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. The condition had significantly affected his physical development, making him appear much younger than his age.
Despite his illness, Niranjan remained a passionate admirer of Pawan Kalyan, earning the affectionate nickname “Gabbar Singh” among local residents and fellow fans.
