The 2026 Women’s Speed Chess Championship (WSCC) is underway, bringing together 16 of the world’s strongest female chess players in one of the most exciting online knockout events of the year. The championship runs from July 6 to July 31, 2026, featuring a $75,000 prize fund and a single elimination format that tests players across blitz and bullet time controls.

This year’s championship includes a stellar international lineup featuring reigning world champions, former champions, experienced grandmasters, and rising prodigies.

Tournament Format
Every knockout match is divided into three phases:
- 90 minutes of 5+1 blitz
- 60 minutes of 3+1 blitz
- 30 minutes of 1+1 bullet
Players earn one point per game, and the competitor with the higher cumulative score advances to the next round.

The championship began on July 6, with the opening Round of 16 encounters producing convincing victories for two tournament favorites.
Ju Wenjun 9.5 – 4.5 Le Thao Nguyen Pham
Defending champion Ju Wenjun delivered a dominant performance, winning by a five-point margin. Her consistency throughout the blitz and bullet segments ensured a comfortable passage into the quarterfinals.
Anna Muzychuk Advances
Former Women’s Blitz World Champion Anna Muzychuk also secured her place in the quarterfinals after winning her opening-round match against R. Vaishali with a composed display of speed chess.
Prize Fund
The championship offers a total prize pool of $75,000, with prize money distributed based on players’ progress in the knockout stages and their match performances. Every participant receives prize money, while the champion takes home the largest share of the purse.
