New Delhi, May 4, 2026 — In a charged atmosphere of jubilation at the headquarters of the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers on Monday evening, marking a triumphant celebration of the BJP-led NDA’s victories in the 2026 Assembly elections.
The event, which began around 6 PM, turned into a vibrant gathering as workers cheered the party’s breakthrough in West Bengal, a decisive retention of power in Assam, and the NDA’s continued hold in Puducherry.
Dressed in traditional attire, Modi arrived to a sea of lotus flags and enthusiastic karyakartas, many of whom had been closely following election trends throughout the day. The results pointed to a saffron surge in the east: the BJP crossed the 200-seat mark in West Bengal’s 294-member Assembly for the first time, ending decades of All India Trinamool Congress dominance; the party secured a comfortable majority in Assam for a third consecutive term; and the NDA alliance retained power in Puducherry.

In his address, the Prime Minister described the day as “historic” and “unprecedented,” linking the victories to years of groundwork by party workers and the people’s faith in development and good governance.
Key Excerpts from PM Modi’s Speech
“Today, I respectfully bow to the people of Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, and also to the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. I heartily congratulate the millions of BJP workers. Every BJP worker, big or small, has once again performed wonders. They have made the lotus bloom.”
Modi paid special tribute to BJP workers in West Bengal, highlighting their long struggle.
“BJP’s record win in West Bengal would not have been possible without the efforts and struggles of countless karyakartas over generations. I salute them all. For years, they have worked on the ground, overcome all sorts of adversities, and spoken about our development agenda. They are the strength of our party.”
He framed the Bengal victory within a broader symbolic journey along the Ganga.
“When the results of the Bihar elections were announced on November 14 last year, I had said from this very place that the Ganga flows from Bihar onward to Gangasagar. And today, with the victory in Bengal, from Gangotri to Gangasagar, the lotus has bloomed everywhere—in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now West Bengal.”
Recalling a personal moment from 2013, he added:
“When I went to file my nomination in Kashi, I had said that I have not come on my own, nor has anyone sent me—Maa Ganga has called me. Today, I feel her blessings are continuously upon us.”
On Assam, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for what he termed a strong mandate.
“Assam has blessed the BJP-NDA once again. This victory reflects unwavering support for development and positive change. I thank the people of Assam and assure them that we will continue working for the state’s transformation.”
Referring to West Bengal again, Modi assured citizens of a governance-focused approach.
“The lotus has bloomed in West Bengal. The 2026 Assembly elections will be remembered. People’s power has prevailed and the politics of good governance has triumphed. We will do everything possible to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the people and ensure opportunity and dignity for all.”
He concluded by calling the moment a reflection of trust.
“Today is a historic day. It is a day of trust—trust in India’s democracy, trust in the politics of performance, and trust in the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.’”
The speech was met with thunderous applause and chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, were present, underscoring the collective effort behind the party’s performance.
Political analysts view these results as a significant expansion of the BJP’s footprint in regions long considered opposition strongholds, signalling a shift toward performance-driven politics over traditional regional loyalties.
As celebrations continue, attention now turns to government formation in West Bengal and the implementation of the development agenda outlined by the Prime Minister. Modi emphasised that the victory belongs not just to the BJP, but to every citizen who placed their faith in the party’s vision—marking what he described as a “lotus bloom” stretching from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal.
