A major drug and liquor haul in Manipur saw suspected brown sugar, heroin and 1,000 litres of illicit liquor seized in coordinated operations.

September 9,2026: Manipur Police and supporting security forces arrested seven people and seized suspected narcotics and a large quantity of illicit liquor in three separate operations across the Imphal Valley on September 8, 2026.
In the biggest narcotics seizure of the day, a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Imphal East District Police, the CRPF and YADAM raided an area at Keikol and arrested three men.
The arrested persons were identified as Robin Thapa, 23, of Irang Part-II in Kangpokpi district; Sarju Chetry, 33, of Diphu in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district; and Padam Rai, 38, of Molkon Nepali Village in Imphal East. Police recovered 1.020 kg of suspected brown sugar, along with a Honda Activa scooter and three mobile phones.
In another narcotics-related operation, Lilong Police Station arrested two brothers — Md. Imtiyaz Khan, 22, and Md. Akbar, 36 — from the Lilong area and seized approximately 24 grams of suspected heroin powder.

On 08/09/2026, a joint team of ANTF-Imphal East District Police, CRPF and YADAM conducted an anti-narcotics operation at Keikol and arrested:

Separately, personnel from Patsoi Police Station and CDO/Imphal West intercepted a Bolero pickup, bearing registration number AS11FC-9358, at Moidangpok Mamang Leikai. A search led to the recovery of approximately 1,000 litres of distilled indigenous country (DIC) liquor.
Two men — Sangbamang Pamei, 24, of Chaangdai Village in Tamenglong district, and Ningthoujam Tappu Singh, 46, of Moidangpok Mamang Leikai — were detained in connection with the liquor seizure. The vehicle, liquor and detainees were handed over to the Excise Station at New Keithelmanbi for further legal proceedings.
The seizures come amid intensified enforcement against drug trafficking and the production and transportation of illicit liquor in Manipur. Police and enforcement agencies have been stepping up checks and coordinated operations to disrupt the movement of narcotics and illegal alcohol, particularly along routes connecting the valley with surrounding districts.
Cases are expected to be registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in connection with the suspected heroin and brown sugar seizures, while the liquor case will be pursued under applicable Excise laws. Investigations are underway to determine the source of the narcotics and liquor, their intended destinations and the possible involvement of wider supply networks.
