Ghaziabad/ July 27, 2026: : Ghaziabad Police have arrested Satyam Pandit, who describes himself as the national president of the Rashtriya Veer Hindu Sena, after a viral video allegedly showed him assaulting and abusing two students linked to the recent anti-NEET protest movement.

The arrest follows widespread outrage over footage circulating on social media in which Pandit is purportedly seen stopping the students, questioning them about their support for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest, verbally abusing them, forcing them to apologise on camera and allegedly slapping one of them.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place around July 23 or 24 while the students were travelling to or returning from Jantar Mantar, where the CJP had staged a month-long agitation over alleged examination irregularities before calling off the protest following the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The video, which quickly went viral, was reportedly uploaded by Pandit himself with a caption referring to “treating some cockroaches”—an apparent reference to supporters of the protest movement.

One of the students, identified in media reports as Ayush, alleged that Pandit and several associates intercepted them on the road, abused them, grabbed one of them by the collar and physically assaulted them after questioning their participation in the protests.

The student further claimed that despite the incident occurring in a public place, neither bystanders nor police personnel present at the scene intervened. He alleged that this discouraged them from filing an immediate complaint.

The video sparked strong political reactions, with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and several Opposition leaders sharing the footage and demanding strict action against those responsible. They accused vigilante groups of targeting students despite repeated assurances that peaceful protesters would not face intimidation.

While Delhi Police had earlier indicated that no formal complaint had been registered in connection with the incident, Ghaziabad Police later took cognisance of the viral video and initiated legal proceedings that culminated in Pandit’s arrest.

Pandit has previously faced legal action in other cases. In August 2024, he was arrested for allegedly delivering inflammatory speeches targeting Bangladeshi and Rohingya communities. Earlier this year, he was also booked in connection with a dispute involving meat shops in Ghaziabad.

Following his latest arrest, Pandit has alleged that he was assaulted by police personnel while in custody and claimed officers struck him with a shoe. The allegation has not been independently verified, and police have not publicly responded to the claim.

Authorities are yet to release detailed information regarding the charges invoked or the progress of the investigation.

The incident has reignited debate over political vigilantism, the safety of peaceful protesters and the role of law enforcement in responding to attacks on demonstrators. Police are expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
