April 26, 2026: The first image of the suspected shooter from the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner incident has surfaced, showing the man restrained by law enforcement near a staircase inside the Washington Hilton.

Images shared by Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social show the suspect pinned to the ground, shirtless, with his hands tied behind his back as officers secured the scene.

According to reports, the suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. Authorities have not yet issued a full official briefing confirming all details of his identity.

Additional footage posted online appears to show the suspect running through a security checkpoint moments before the shooting. President Trump told reporters the individual was armed with multiple weapons before being stopped by Secret Service personnel.

“A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service… One officer was shot, but saved—the vest did the job. I just spoke to the officer, and he’s doing great,” Trump said.

He added that multiple charges are expected to be filed, including those related to firearms possession and the shooting itself. Trump described the suspect as a “sick person” and confirmed that law enforcement agencies were searching his residence in California.

The United States Secret Service confirmed that one suspect is in custody and that the shooting occurred near the main security screening area of the venue.

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended,” Trump wrote in a separate post, adding that he had suggested continuing the event but would defer to law enforcement decisions.

The incident triggered a massive security response. Tactical teams with weapons drawn moved onto the stage where the president had been seated before his evacuation. Police flooded the Washington Hilton, while helicopters hovered overhead.

Witnesses reported hearing between five and eight gunshots. The banquet hall—packed with journalists, celebrities, and political figures—was evacuated, with National Guard personnel deployed inside the venue. Attendees were later allowed to exit but were not permitted to re-enter as security operations continued.

The dinner marked Trump’s first attendance at the WHCA event as sitting president, placing his administration’s often strained relationship with the media in sharp focus. The gathering included prominent political figures, international guests, and entertainment acts such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

Investigations into the suspect’s motive, background, and full sequence of events remain ongoing.
