Additional footage posted online appears to show the suspect running through a security checkpoint moments before the shooting. President Trump told reporters the individual was armed with multiple weapons before being stopped by Secret Service personnel.
“A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service… One officer was shot, but saved—the vest did the job. I just spoke to the officer, and he’s doing great,” Trump said.

He added that multiple charges are expected to be filed, including those related to firearms possession and the shooting itself. Trump described the suspect as a “sick person” and confirmed that law enforcement agencies were searching his residence in California.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that one suspect is in custody and that the shooting occurred near the main security screening area of the venue.
“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended,” Trump wrote in a separate post, adding that he had suggested continuing the event but would defer to law enforcement decisions.
