Yash Dabas defeated NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena for DUSU president as ABVP retained three key posts. NSUI won no central position and alleged counting irregularities.

New Delhi/ September 19: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three of the four central posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections for 2026-27, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, a former NSUI member, won the Vice-President’s post.
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) failed to win any of the four central posts and alleged irregularities in the counting process. The results were declared on Saturday after counting at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus. Polling was held on Friday across 52 centres, with voter turnout recorded at 40.46 per cent.
Results
ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the President’s post with 24,576 votes, defeating NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena, who polled 22,523 votes, a margin of 2,053 votes.
Riya Chhawdi of ABVP won the Secretary’s post with 21,650 votes, while Lakshya Raj Singh of ABVP won the Joint Secretary’s post with 16,615 votes.
Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President’s post with 30,615 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya finished second with 16,910 votes, while NSUI’s Vir Chatrath polled 4,313 votes. Shokeen had contested as an independent after not receiving an NSUI ticket.

NSUI allegations
During the counting process, NSUI leaders alleged irregularities and accused the Delhi University administration of favouring ABVP.
NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar alleged that the administration had sided with ABVP and called on NSUI students and workers to reach the campus. These allegations were made by the organisation during the counting process and have not been independently established.

Before polling, NSUI had also alleged that ABVP workers attacked the residences of its candidates Vijay Shankar Meena and Gopal Choudhary. NSUI said the incidents were intended to create fear ahead of polling and demanded police action.
NSUI further alleged that a former national secretary of the organisation was detained by police without adequate reason during the election process. Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar separately alleged selective harassment of NSUI workers by university authorities and police. These claims were disputed and have not been independently established.
ABVP and BJP-linked leaders, meanwhile, accused NSUI supporters of using fake identity cards during polling. Those allegations also remain unsubstantiated unless established through an official inquiry.
Court directions
The election results came against the backdrop of judicial restrictions on campaigning and post-election celebrations. The Delhi High Court had barred candidates from holding victory processions following allegations of campaign-rule violations, including the use of weapons, luxury-car cavalcades and other prohibited activities. The court had also issued notices to 140 student candidates.
The court’s directions meant that winning candidates and their supporters were not permitted to organise victory rallies on university premises, roads or in hostels.
