New Delhi, October 31, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has married journalist Nidhi Razdan, beginning a new chapter in his personal life three months after the Supreme Court dissolved his marriage to Payal Abdullah. The wedding was solemnised on October 30 under the Special Marriage Act in New Delhi, according to reports.
Abdullah, 56, announced the development on Saturday through a social media post featuring photographs of the couple. “A new journey began yesterday,” he wrote, tagging Razdan and adding a ring emoji. Razdan, 49, also confirmed the occasion with a post of her own, writing, “It’s done bro,” accompanied by a ring emoji.
The wedding celebrations were attended by close family members from both sides. Omar Abdullah’s parents, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, his three sisters, and Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist M.K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan, were among those present. The couple also shared photographs from the occasion, drawing congratulatory messages from political and media circles.
The marriage follows the Supreme Court’s July 31, 2026, decision to dissolve Abdullah’s marriage to Payal Nath, whom he married in September 1994. The couple had two sons, Zahir and Zamir, and had been living separately for several years. Their separation became public in 2011, after which the divorce proceedings continued through the courts.

The Supreme Court granted the divorce by mutual consent, exercising its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution. The two sides had informed the court that they had reached a settlement and agreed to withdraw pending cases against each other. The court’s intervention brought an end to a prolonged legal dispute after the Delhi High Court had earlier rejected Abdullah’s plea for divorce.
Razdan is a familiar face in Indian television journalism. She spent several years with NDTV, where she served as executive editor and anchored programmes including Left, Right & Centre and The Big Fight. Her reporting has covered national politics, international affairs and developments in Jammu and Kashmir. She is the daughter of M.K. Razdan, a former editor-in-chief of the Press Trust of India.
Omar Abdullah, who heads the National Conference, returned as Chief Minister after his party’s victory in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. He had earlier served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015. The wedding has brought renewed public attention to his personal life, which had remained in the spotlight during the long-running divorce proceedings.
The couple’s social-media announcements on Saturday made the marriage public, although they have not shared extensive details of the ceremony.
