New Delhi, September 19: NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena has opened up a 335-vote lead over ABVP’s Yash Dabas in the race for president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) after 11 rounds of counting , according to the latest counting figures.
Meena has secured 13,268 votes, while Dabas has polled 12,933, with counting still underway. The presidential contest has remained closely fought, with the lead changing during successive rounds of counting.
In the vice-presidential race, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen is in a strong position with 15,601 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya is in second place with 7,838 votes, followed by NSUI’s Veer Chatrath with 3,168.
For secretary, ABVP’s Riya Chhabra is leading with 9,954 votes, ahead of NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary, who has secured 7,712 votes.

The joint secretary contest is also closely fought. Vishesh Yadav of SCS is leading with 8,007 votes, narrowly ahead of NSUI’s Gopal Chaudhary, who has 7,918 votes. ABVP’s Lakshya Raj Singh is third with 7,452 votes.
Earlier Position After 10th Round
Earlier, after the 10th round of counting, Meena had secured 11,966 votes, while Dabas had 11,472, giving the NSUI candidate a lead of 494 votes at that stage.
The presidential contest had been even tighter after the ninth round, when Meena and Dabas were separated by just one vote, with Meena on 10,888 and Dabas on 10,887.
Voting for the four central DUSU posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary — was held on September 18. Twenty candidates representing ABVP, NSUI, the AISA-SFI alliance, SCS, ASAP and independent groups are contesting the four posts.
Counting is taking place at the Multipurpose Hall of Delhi University’s Sports Stadium. University officials said the process began about 90 minutes late. The counting is being videographed, and the final results will be announced after the process is completed.
