Heavily armed intruders linked to JeM were gunned down after a fierce firefight near the International Border in Samba, highlighting India’s reinforced border defense following the Pahalgam attack.

In a decisive operation late last night, Indian security forces neutralized seven suspected terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group as they attempted to infiltrate India through the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF) with support from the Indian Army, foiled a major infiltration bid along the International Border, underscoring India’s robust counter-terrorism measures.
According to official sources, the incident occurred around 11:00 PM on May 8, 2025, when BSF personnel detected suspicious movement near the border in the Samba district. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the forces swiftly engaged the intruders, who were heavily armed and attempting to cross into Indian territory. A fierce exchange of fire ensued, lasting several hours, during which all seven terrorists were eliminated.
“BSF troops, in coordination with the Indian Army, successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Samba sector. Seven terrorists, suspected to be members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, were neutralized,” a senior BSF official confirmed. The operation was described as a “clinical and precise” response to a potential threat, with no casualties reported on the Indian side.

Preliminary investigations suggest the terrorists were planning a significant attack in Jammu and Kashmir, possibly targeting civilian or security installations. Recovered items include a cache of sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, grenades, and communication devices, indicating their intent to carry out a large-scale operation. A wireless set seized from the terrorists further confirmed their affiliation with JeM, a group notorious for orchestrating attacks such as the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
The Samba sector, located close to the International Border, has been a known route for terrorist infiltration attempts, often facilitated by Pakistan-based handlers. This incident follows India’s recent ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a series of precision strikes on May 7, 2025, targeting JeM and Lashkar-e-Taiba infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

The neutralization of the seven terrorists has been widely hailed on social media, with posts on X reflecting public sentiment and pride in the Indian forces’ resolve. “BSF foiled a big infiltration attempt and killed 7 Jaish terrorists in the Samba sector, J&K. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a meeting of state officials today, reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. “The success of this operation, following Operation Sindoor, is a testament to our forces’ unwavering commitment to national security,” he stated, emphasizing that India’s response to terrorism will remain resolute.
The operation comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with cross-border firing reported along the Line of Control in recent days. Local authorities have urged residents in border areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Schools in Samba and nearby districts remained closed today as a precautionary measure, and security forces are conducting sanitization operations to ensure no additional threats remain.
This latest encounter underscores the ongoing challenge of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, even as India continues to strengthen its counter-terrorism framework. The government has called for international cooperation to address the menace of terrorism, with the United States recently reaffirming its support for India’s efforts following the Pahalgam attack.
As investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the infiltration plot, the Indian security forces remain on high alert, prepared to counter any further threats to the nation’s sovereignty and peace.
