The wait is almost over as Tata Motors prepares to launch the much-awaited Tata Sierra EV on June 30, 2026, reviving one of India’s most iconic SUVs in a modern electric avatar. Blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology, the Sierra EV is expected to become one of the biggest launches in India’s premium electric SUV segment. Recent teasers suggest a claimed driving range of over 500 km, with some variants expected to exceed 600 km under the IDC test cycle.
A Legendary Name Returns: Tata Sierra EV
The original Tata Sierra debuted in 1995 and quickly became one of India’s most recognizable SUVs. Alongside the Tata Sumo, it helped establish Tata Motors as a serious player in the utility vehicle market.
Known for its distinctive wraparound rear glass, bold styling and rugged character, the Sierra was offered in Standard and Turbo variants and remained in production until 2003-2004 before being phased out as newer SUVs and MPVs, including the Toyota Innova, gained popularity.
More than two decades later, Tata has revived the legendary badge while preserving its unmistakable design identity.
Classic Design Meets Modern Technology
The new Sierra EV retains the iconic curved rear quarter windows that made the original Sierra instantly recognizable. However, the SUV has been completely redesigned with modern touches, including:
- Connected LED DRLs and tail lamps
- Flush door handles
- Aerodynamic alloy wheels
- Illuminated Tata logo
- Futuristic front fascia

Inside, Tata has focused heavily on technology and comfort. The Sierra EV is expected to feature:
- Triple-screen infotainment layout
- Fully digital instrument cluster
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats
- Premium ambient lighting
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Connected car technology
- Level 2 ADAS safety features
- Multiple terrain modes and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability on higher variants.

Performance, Battery and Expected Range
The Sierra EV will be built on Tata’s Acti.ev+ architecture, the same platform underpinning the Harrier EV.
Reports suggest Tata may offer two battery pack options, including 65 kWh and 75 kWh variants. The SUV is expected to be available in both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Quad Wheel Drive (QWD/AWD) configurations.
Official teasers indicate a claimed driving range of over 500 km, while higher-spec variants may deliver around 600 km or more under ideal test conditions. Tata has also teased a Boost Mode and off-road-focused terrain settings for premium variants.
Expected Price and Rivals
The Tata Sierra EV is expected to be priced between ₹19 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant. ( Tata Motors EV )
