Honda ZR-V is officially introduced in India, bringing back a premium SUV to its lineup after the CR-V.
The new five-seater SUV becomes Honda’s flagship offering and aims to compete with premium rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Jeep Meridian, and Citroen C5 Aircross. The SUV is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), placing it in the premium segment.
The launch is significant for Honda because the company has lacked a premium SUV.
While the CR-V was known for its spacious cabin and comfortable highway manners, it struggled due to its high price and limited demand. The ZR-V arrives with a more modern design, advanced hybrid technology, and a feature-rich cabin to attract buyers looking for efficiency without compromising on performance.
Strong Hybrid Powertrain Takes Center Stage
The Honda ZR-V is powered by a 2.0-litre direct-injection Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with Honda’s dual-motor e:HEV strong hybrid system. Together, the setup produces 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque, with power delivered through an e-CVT transmission to the front wheels.
The hybrid system automatically switches between EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive depending on road conditions. This allows the SUV to deliver instant acceleration in city traffic while maintaining excellent fuel efficiency on highways.
Honda claims an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 22.8 km/l, making the ZR-V one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in its segment. It can sprint from 0-100 km/h in around eight seconds, offering a balance of performance and economy.
Premium Design Inside and Out
The ZR-V adopts a sporty yet elegant design. A large grille, slim LED headlamps, L-shaped daytime running lights, sculpted body lines and 18-inch alloy wheels give it a strong road presence.
Inside, Honda focuses on comfort and premium quality. The cabin features soft-touch materials, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
Honda SENSING Brings Advanced Safety
Safety remains one of the biggest highlights of the ZR-V.
The SUV comes equipped with Honda SENSING, the brand’s advanced driver assistance suite. Features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Other safety equipment includes eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake and Auto Hold.
Honda ZR-V vs Honda CR-V: What’s Different?
The ZR-V effectively takes over the position once held by the Honda CR-V, but it follows a different strategy.
The CR-V was a larger SUV that offered both five-seat and seven-seat configurations in some markets. It focused on practicality, long-distance comfort and family use. However, its premium pricing limited its success in India.
The ZR-V is slightly smaller and is available only as a five-seater. Instead of emphasizing size, Honda has focused on hybrid efficiency, sharper handling, modern technology and a more premium driving experience.
Compared with the older CR-V sold in India, the ZR-V offers:
- A more advanced dual-motor strong hybrid system.
- Better fuel efficiency.
- A more technology-rich cabin.
- Honda SENSING Level-2 driver assistance features.

Unlike most competitors that rely on turbo-petrol or diesel engines, Honda differentiates itself with a self-charging strong hybrid powertrain that offers significantly better fuel economy.
