Pregnant Woman Dies by Suicide
A 23-year-old pregnant woman, identified as Sushmita, allegedly died by suicide in Telangana after her husband, G. Abhilash, reportedly demanded a DNA test to determine the paternity of their unborn child.
According to reports, Abhilash became suspicious after allegedly discovering Sushmita exchanging text messages with another man. The incident reportedly led him to question whether he was the father of the child she was carrying and to demand a DNA test.
Just two days after the alleged confrontation, Sushmita, who was five months pregnant, was found dead in an apparent case of suicide.
Following a complaint filed by Sushmita’s mother, Telangana Police arrested Abhilash. In the complaint, her mother alleged that Sushmita had been subjected to harassment by both her husband and her in-laws. Police have launched an investigation, and further details are awaited.
Incident Triggers Debate on Social Media
The incident has sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms, where users have expressed sharply divided opinions.
Many users have linked the case to recent discussions surrounding the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal and the earlier suicide case involving Atul Subhash, both of which intensified debates over domestic abuse, marital disputes, and gender-based narratives in India.
Some social media users argue that a request for a DNA test should not, by itself, be viewed as unreasonable. Others believe the reported harassment alleged by Sushmita’s family may have contributed significantly to her mental distress.
Several posts on X (formerly Twitter) have criticized the online speculation surrounding the case, with one widely shared opinion stating that “it is obvious that the woman would be blamed even when she is dead.”
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not established the exact circumstances that led to Sushmita’s death. Police are continuing their investigation into the allegations of harassment and the events leading up to the suicide.
