A transgender woman named Shabnam, who recently went viral on social media, has finally broken her silence regarding the ridicule, trolling, and online harassment she has been facing.
The controversy began after a video surfaced online showing a young man entering a protest against a transgender rights bill and recording Shabnam without her consent. In the video, he is seen mocking her appearance, particularly for being bald and wearing a saree.
Memes and Online Trolling Flood Social Media
Following the video’s circulation, it quickly went viral across various social media platforms. Numerous memes were created and shared, with some users comparing Shabnam to characters such as “Ganji Chudel” and using other derogatory labels.
The incident sparked widespread discussions about online bullying, dignity, and the treatment of transgender individuals in digital spaces.
Shabnam Calls the Recording a Violation of Privacy
In a video statement addressing the controversy, Shabnam spoke about the events surrounding the recording and described the incident as a serious violation of her privacy.
According to her, she had intentionally kept herself away from social media and had never publicly shared details about her life online. She stated that the viral video exposed her to unwanted attention and significantly impacted her personal privacy.
“We Don’t Need Reproductive Organs to Form Our Identity”
During her statement, Shabnam strongly addressed issues surrounding gender identity and the challenges faced by transgender individuals.
“We don’t need reproductive organs to form our identity,” she said, while speaking about the bullying and harassment she has allegedly endured throughout her life.
Shabnam also shared that she believes she inherited her femininity from her maternal lineage and expressed pride in her identity and personal journey.
Growing Debate Over Transgender Rights and Social Acceptance
The video has created a divide on social media, with some users continuing to mock the viral clip while others have come forward in support of Shabnam and her perspective.
The incident has also reignited discussions about how difficult it can be for transgender individuals to exercise the same basic rights and freedoms that many people take for granted. Supporters argue that transgender people are often subjected to unnecessary scrutiny, harassment, and discrimination simply for existing and expressing their identity.
Legal Warning Issued Against Creator of Viral Video
In her statement, Shabnam issued a strong legal warning against the creator of the viral video and called for an end to the hatred and harassment directed toward her.
She emphasized the importance of respecting privacy, dignity, and individual rights, while urging people to be more mindful of the consequences of online trolling and public ridicule.
