Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who returned to India after cutting short his visit to the United States due to the Pahalgam terror attack, has announced plans to visit Srinagar on April 25. His visit includes a courtesy call to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag to inquire about the condition of those injured in the attack, demonstrating his solidarity with the victims and commitment to addressing the region’s security challenges.
The announcement comes on the heels of an all-party meeting convened by the central government on April 24, to address the escalating situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack. Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the meeting included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and representatives from various political parties, such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), National Conference, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to ANI after the meeting, Kharge condemned the attack and emphasized a unified approach: “All parties strongly denounced the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We urged the government to implement robust measures to restore peace and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.” He highlighted the need for enhanced security coordination between central and state authorities and proactive steps to address local grievances.

The all-party meeting focused on critical issues, including bolstering intelligence networks, improving coordination among security forces, and promoting socio-economic development to counter radicalization and foster long-term stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Leaders from diverse political backgrounds offered suggestions on counter-terrorism strategies and called for a comprehensive review of security protocols to prevent future attacks.

In parallel, the government has initiated several measures in response to the attack. Punjab Police Protocol Officer Arun Mahal reported the temporary closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post (ICP) as a precautionary step, leading to the repatriation of 28 Pakistani nationals and the return of 105 Indian citizens. Additionally, in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, two individuals were arrested for posting inflammatory and objectionable content on Instagram related to the Pahalgam attack, reflecting efforts to curb misinformation and maintain public order.
The Pahalgam terror attack has sparked widespread concern, prompting calls for increased surveillance, deployment of additional forces in vulnerable areas, and greater engagement with local communities to address underlying tensions. Rahul Gandhi’s decision to cut short his US visit, attend the all-party meeting, and travel to Srinagar signals a strong commitment to addressing the crisis and supporting affected communities.
