NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: Just days before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 re-examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has come under scrutiny after a major exam centre allocation error surfaced. A student from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was reportedly assigned an examination centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), instead of a location in India, raising concerns about the transparency and efficiency of the examination process.
Over 2.2 Million Candidates Set to Appear for NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam
The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is being conducted following the paper leak controversy that impacted the original exam. More than 2.2 million medical aspirants across India are expected to participate in the retest. However, the latest centre allocation issue has triggered anxiety among students and parents ahead of the crucial examination.
Nagpur Student Assigned Examination Centre in Abu Dhabi
According to reports, Abdullah, a student from Nagpur, had selected nearby cities such as Nagpur, Wardha, and Bhandara as his preferred examination locations. However, when he downloaded his revised admit card for the re-exam, the allotted examination centre was shown as Abu Dhabi.
The student’s family expressed shock over the allocation, pointing out that he had appeared for the original NEET examination in India. They described the incident as a serious administrative or technical error.
Parent Raises Concerns Over Student’s Academic Future
Abdullah’s father, Dr. Mohammad Talib, stated that the family had already faced difficulties while downloading the admit card. Upon discovering the overseas exam centre assignment, they immediately contacted the NTA through its helpline and email support channels.
He emphasized that his son does not even possess a passport, making it impossible for him to travel abroad for the examination. If the issue is not resolved promptly, the student risks missing the re-exam, potentially affecting an entire academic year.
NTA Assures Corrective Action
Following the public attention the case received, the NTA acknowledged the complaint and confirmed that the matter is under verification. The agency assured that the student’s examination centre would be corrected and reassigned to an appropriate location within his city or region after the review process is completed.
According to NTA officials, candidate welfare remains the agency’s top priority, and revised examination details will be communicated as soon as possible.
Questions Raised Over Examination Management
The NEET UG 2026 examination has already been at the center of national debate due to the paper leak controversy. This latest incident involving an incorrect overseas examination centre allocation has further intensified criticism of the examination management system.
Education experts argue that large-scale national examinations require stronger verification mechanisms, enhanced digital infrastructure, and robust quality-control measures to prevent such errors from affecting candidates.
Growing Anxiety Among Students and Parents
With millions of candidates preparing for the NEET UG 2026 re-exam, incidents like these are adding to the stress and uncertainty faced by aspirants. Students and parents have voiced concerns that administrative errors close to examination dates can significantly impact candidates’ mental well-being and performance.
