New Delhi, June 8: In a bid to restore public faith in India’s largest medical entrance test, authorities have imposed an unprecedented security lockdown on all experts involved in setting the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination question paper. The entire team—paper setters, moderators, translators, and other key personnel—has been sequestered at a secret, high-security facility, completely cut off from the outside world until the re-test concludes on June 21.
The stringent measures come after the massive controversy surrounding the May NEET-UG examination, which was marred by paper leak allegations, leading to its abrupt cancellation and triggering widespread anxiety among more than 22 lakh aspirants and their families. The episode raised serious questions about the credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and exposed critical vulnerabilities in the examination ecosystem.
Sources familiar with the arrangements said the experts have been housed at a fortified, undisclosed location where all forms of external communication have been virtually eliminated. Mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches, tablets, and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited. Movement in and out of the facility is heavily monitored, with every entry and exit meticulously logged. Only a handful of pre-cleared personnel are allowed access.
This “isolation lockdown” forms the first and most critical layer of a multi-tiered, airtight security architecture rolled out by the NTA and the Union Education Ministry for the June 21 re-test. The examination will be held in the conventional pen-and-paper format from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm across 551 cities in India and 14 international centres.

Enhanced Security Across Every Stage
The overhaul extends well beyond question paper preparation. Authorities have introduced compartmentalisation across the entire examination chain—from translation and moderation to printing, packaging, storage, transportation, and distribution—ensuring that no single individual or group has access to the complete process.
A major focus is on the logistics of question paper movement. Government sources indicate that the use of Indian Air Force aircraft is being actively considered for the secure transportation of examination material to different parts of the country, particularly remote and sensitive regions.
Additionally, a dedicated team is maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of social media platforms, messaging apps, and online forums to swiftly detect and neutralise any attempts to circulate fake question papers, spread rumours, or engage in other suspicious activities.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reportedly taken a personal interest in the preparations, directing officials to identify and eliminate every vulnerability exposed during the previous examination cycle. The overarching mandate is to conduct the re-examination with “zero tolerance” for lapses, ensuring the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and credibility.
The intensified security protocol reflects the government’s determination not only to prevent another paper leak but also to rebuild the trust of millions of students who view NEET-UG as the gateway to their medical careers.
