Ex-US President Jimmy Carter turns 100; becomes longest-living US president
Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, recently celebrated his 100th birthday, setting a new record as the oldest-living president in American history. Carter, born in Plains, Georgia on October 1, 1924, continues to be a significant figure for his efforts in advocating for democracy, peace, and global development after leaving the presidency.
Carter, who was the President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, holds the record for the longest post-presidency period among American Presidents, spanning over 43 years.
Carter, a member of the Democratic party, started his political journey as a state senator and later served as the governor of Georgia.

Carter established the Carter Center for human rights and resolving conflicts
Following his term in office, he and his wife Rosalynn established the Carter Center, a non-profit organization focused on human rights and resolving conflicts. Rosalynn Carter, the wife of the former president of the United States Jimmy Carter, passed away in November 2023 at the age of 96.
Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002

In 2015, Carter was diagnosed with cancer that had metastasized to his brain. Even though he faced health hurdles and started hospice care in February 2023, he still manages to be a source of inspiration.
Jimmy Carter was the first US president to reach the age of 100. George HW Bush, who died at 94 in 2018, and Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, who both lived to 93, were the previous presidents holding the record for longest life span.
Joe Biden, the present president, is the oldest sitting US president ever at 81 years old. Should Donald Trump win this autumn, he has the potential to surpass that record and become the oldest president.

Carter, who is 100 years old, has also given his support to Kamala Harris, who is 59 years old, in her bid for president. Jason Carter, his grandson, recently revealed that the ex-president was eagerly anticipating voting in the upcoming election scheduled for November 5.
