TV Today Network has laid off around 200 employees—nearly 10% of its workforce—in a nationwide restructuring drive amid mounting financial pressure and an 81% plunge in annual net profit.

New Delhi, 25, 2026: Amid shrinking revenue, TV Today Network Ltd, the broadcaster of Aaj Tak and India Today TV, has laid off nearly 10% of its workforce, with around 200 employees reportedly losing their jobs in a restructuring exercise spanning multiple departments and bureaus across the country.
Several employees who spoke to this correspondent said they were dismissed without prior notice. According to them, many were informed of their termination over the phone and were told the company would pay them one month’s salary instead of the mandatory notice period, instead of allowing them to serve it.
“This is so inhuman,” said one dismissed employee.
Another employee said the decision had left many in a difficult position. “Had we been allowed to serve the one-month notice period, it would have been easier to look for another job. Once you become unemployed, it becomes much harder to find work, and in many cases you have to settle for a lower salary,” the employee said.
The retrenchment has affected operations across several states. According to employees, the company has shut down its Chhattisgarh bureau, while technicians and drivers at its Lucknow bureau have been dismissed. One of the network’s outside broadcast (OB) vans in Patna has reportedly been withdrawn, resulting in the loss of jobs for the driver and technician attached to the unit. In Ranchi, a cameraman has been laid off, while staff reductions have also taken place in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and several other cities. In Delhi, dozens of employees across editorial and non-editorial departments have reportedly been shown the door.
“Many of us stood by the organisation through thick and thin. We risked our lives during the COVID-19 pandemic to gather news from the ground. Today, we’ve simply been told to leave. We never expected to be treated this way after everything we gave to the company,” said a cameraman who was among those laid off.

The latest round of layoffs marks the third major workforce reduction at TV Today Network in less than two years.
In January 2025, the company undertook a large-scale restructuring following the closure of its Ishq FM radio business. The broadcaster shut down its 104.8 Ishq FM stations in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, citing sustained losses and an adverse business environment in the FM radio sector. The restructuring resulted in a reduction of more than 14% of the company’s workforce, amounting to roughly 363 employees, as it sought to cut costs amid declining advertising revenues and changing media consumption patterns.
The January 2025 exercise followed another round of retrenchment in August 2024, when nearly 200 employees across the India Today Group were laid off as part of an organisational restructuring.
The fresh layoffs come at a time when the company is facing significant financial headwinds.
For the financial year 2025-26, TV Today Network reported an 81% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹14 crore. Revenue also remained under pressure amid a prolonged slowdown in television advertising, while rising operating costs further squeezed profitability.
The company also reported weaker revenue during the March 2026 quarter compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, reflecting continuing challenges in the broadcast news business. Although management has undertaken cost optimisation measures, earnings remained substantially lower than the previous financial year.
The financial pressure mirrors a broader trend across India’s television news industry, where traditional broadcasters are grappling with sluggish advertising growth, intense competition from digital platforms, and rapidly changing audience viewing habits. Many media companies have accelerated investments in digital businesses while simultaneously reducing costs in their television operations.
The India Today Group has also come under scrutiny during the ongoing student-led CJP protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Several of its reporters and anchors were met with hostile slogans from protesters and, on some occasions, were forced to cut short their reporting assignments and leave the venue. Many protesters have accused the network of misrepresenting the movement and portraying it in a manner they believe favours the government’s narrative. TV Today Network has not publicly responded to these allegations.
