On Sunday, the Prime Minister’s Office convened a high-level meeting to assess the situation in Tamil Nadu following the floods and discuss potential measures to aid the state. According to official sources, PMO representatives have met with Tamil Nadu government employees to talk about relief and rehabilitation efforts in the region.
The deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as well and help from armed forces, including helicopters, in case of need was also discussed, they added.
A visit of an inter-ministerial central team to assess the damage was also discussed in the meeting.
Parts of the southern state have experienced major flooding and intense rains that have not been seen in a while. M K Stalin, the chief minister, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk about relief efforts.
