Ronaldo, Georgina Marry in Private Portugal Ceremony

The couple reportedly exchanged vows in an intimate civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, attended by their five children. While the venue remains undisclosed, speculation has centred on Ronaldo's sprawling private estate in the exclusive Quinta da Marinha enclave.

The wedding came exactly one year after Rodríguez announced their engagement with a photograph of her diamond ring and the words, “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.”

New Delhi/August 12, 2026: Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have finally made official what had been the subject of intense speculation for months: the football superstar and his longtime partner are married.

The couple confirmed their marriage on August 11 with an understated Instagram post that appeared to deliberately avoid the spectacle normally associated with a celebrity wedding. The photograph showed Ronaldo’s hand resting over Rodríguez’s, with both wearing wedding bands. The simple image quickly went viral, attracting more than three million likes within the first half-hour.

The couple’s message was equally restrained, allowing the rings rather than a lavish wedding photograph to announce that they had become husband and wife.

The wedding took place in Cascais, the affluent coastal municipality west of Lisbon, in an intimate civil ceremony attended by their five children, according to reports. The precise venue has not been publicly disclosed, adding another layer of mystery to an event that had generated weeks of speculation in Portugal and among Ronaldo’s enormous global following.

Portuguese media have described the ceremony as one of the country’s most anticipated celebrity weddings of the year. Despite the speculation, there was no large public celebration or high-profile guest list announced beforehand.

A wedding behind closed doors

One of the strongest theories is that the ceremony may have been held at the couple’s vast property in Quinta da Marinha, one of the most exclusive residential and resort areas along the Cascais coast. There is, however, no official confirmation that Ronaldo’s home was the wedding venue.

The location would have made sense for a couple determined to keep the occasion private. Quinta da Marinha is known for luxury residences, golf courses, beaches and discreet high-end resorts, while Ronaldo’s property is surrounded by the kind of security and privacy that would be difficult to replicate at a conventional wedding venue.

The mansion itself is one of the footballer’s most ambitious property projects in Portugal. Reports put the size of the estate at around 12,000 square metres of land, with the house covering roughly 5,000 square metres, or nearly 54,000 square feet. Architectural reports have described it as a huge contemporary residence designed with extensive glass, open spaces and views towards the Atlantic.

The property reportedly contains eight bedrooms, including an expansive master suite, along with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fully equipped gym, wellness and massage areas, a private cinema and extensive entertainment spaces. A large underground garage was designed to accommodate Ronaldo’s collection of luxury and sports cars, with reports suggesting room for around 20 vehicles or more.

Other reports have mentioned a tennis court, sauna and additional leisure facilities, making the residence resemble a private luxury resort rather than a conventional family home.

The property is understood to have taken several years to complete and was built to serve as a major family base in Portugal. Reports about its eventual status have varied, with some earlier accounts claiming Ronaldo had considered selling it because of privacy concerns, while later reports suggested the property remained an important part of the family’s plans.

That privacy issue is significant. Ronaldo is among the most recognisable people on the planet, while Rodríguez has built a huge following of her own through modelling, fashion, social media and her Netflix series I Am Georgina. A wedding at their heavily secured private residence would have allowed the couple to avoid much of the public exposure associated with a traditional venue.

Exactly one year after the engagement

The timing of the wedding was striking.

Exactly one year before the marriage, on August 11, 2025, Rodríguez announced their engagement by posting a photograph of her hand displaying a huge diamond ring. Her caption read: “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.”

The engagement ended years of uncertainty surrounding the couple’s plans to marry. They had been together for nearly a decade, but Ronaldo had previously indicated that he did not want to rush into a wedding and that his football commitments remained a priority.

The couple’s eventual decision to marry came after years of building a family together and navigating life under extraordinary public scrutiny.

The wedding speculation became particularly intense in the days leading up to August 11, with social media rumours pointing to different Portuguese locations. Some fans even reportedly travelled to the wrong location after rumours circulated that the wedding could take place elsewhere in Portugal.

From a Gucci store to one of football’s most famous relationships

Ronaldo and Rodríguez’s relationship began far away from football stadiums and red carpets.

The pair first met in Madrid when Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store and Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid. Their relationship became public in 2016-17, and they made their first major public appearance together at the Best FIFA Football Awards in January 2017.

What began as a relatively private relationship gradually developed into one of the most closely followed romances in global sport.

Rodríguez gave birth to their daughter Alana Martina in 2017. Ronaldo also has three other children: Cristiano Jr. and twins Eva and Mateo. In 2022, the couple suffered the devastating loss of their newborn son, Ángel, while their daughter Bella survived.

The family has remained at the centre of Rodríguez’s public life. Her Netflix series has offered viewers an unusually intimate look at the couple’s lifestyle, children, homes, travels and the pressures of living alongside one of the world’s most famous athletes.

Cristiano Ronaldo met Georgina Rodríguez around 2016, when she was working at a Gucci store in Madrid. What started as a simple meeting slowly turned into a beautiful love story.

Through the fame, pressure, ups and downs, they stayed together, built a family.

Ronaldo’s extraordinary football career

The marriage comes as Ronaldo enters another extraordinary phase of a career that has stretched across more than two decades.

The Portuguese forward has played for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, while remaining the central figure of Portugal’s national team.

He has won multiple Ballon d’Or awards, five Champions League titles and numerous domestic trophies and individual honours. His international career has been equally remarkable, including Portugal’s Euro 2016 triumph and his participation in a record-equalling sixth World Cup.

At 41, Ronaldo remains one of the most recognisable and commercially powerful athletes in the world, with his career goal tally approaching the unprecedented 1,000-mark.

A deliberately private ending to a very public love story

For a couple whose relationship has been documented relentlessly for almost a decade, the wedding announcement was remarkably simple.

There were no elaborate photographs of the ceremony, no immediate disclosure of the guest list and no detailed account of the celebrations. Instead, Ronaldo and Rodríguez chose a picture of two hands and two wedding bands.

It was enough.

After years of engagement rumours, questions over venues and speculation about when they would finally marry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have formally begun the next chapter of their relationship as husband and wife.

And if the ceremony was indeed held at their Quinta da Marinha residence, it would have been entirely consistent with the way they chose to enter married life: behind high walls, surrounded by family and away from the cameras.
