Lok Sabha Polls: Phase 6 Voting begins
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to vote in big numbers on Saturday, as the sixth round of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 began. “Every vote counts; make yours count, too,” Prime Minister Modi said in his poll day statement on X.
Voters will cast their ballots in the sixth and penultimate round of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, which includes 58 seats across six states and two Union Territories today, May 25. This round of voting includes all ten Haryana seats as well as seven Delhi seats.
The voting, which began at 7 a.m., is also taking place on 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, eight in Bihar and West Bengal, six in Odisha, four in Jharkhand, and one in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Election Commission of India reported that the 58 seats voting today had an approximate voter turnout of 10.82% as of 9 a.m. West Bengal reported 16.5%, while Uttar Pradesh reported 12.3%. The electoral panel reported 8.9% turnout in Delhi and 8.8% in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag Rajouri seat.
The 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha are also voting along with the Lok Sabha elections today.
The Election Commission of India announced that around 11.13 crore individuals are eligible to vote in this phase of polling, which would take place at 1.14 lakh polling stations across 58 seats. This contains 5.84 crore men, 5.29 crore women, and 5120 third-gender electors.

Key candidates in Phase 6 of Lok Sabha Polls
The key candidates include Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Dharmendra Pradhan (Sambalpur), Manoj Tiwari (North East Delhi), Maneka Gandhi (Sultanpur), Abhijit Gangopadhyay (Tamluk), Naveen Jindal (Kurukshetra), and Manohar Lal Khattar (Karnal), among others.
The Congress party’s prominent candidates in the fray today are Kanhaiya Kumar (North East Delhi) and Raj Babbar (Gurgaon). PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is contesting from Anantnag-Rajouri seat in Jammu and Kashmir.
What happened in previous phases?
The voter turnout in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20 was expected to be 62.15 percent, up from 61.82 percent in the same seats in 2019. The fourth phase of polling, held on May 13, had a turnout of 69.16 percent, whereas the third phase, held on May 7, had a voter turnout of 65.68 percent. According to the Election Commission of India, the second phase, held on April 26, saw 66.71 percent turnout, whereas the first phase, held on April 19, saw 66.1 percent turnout.
