Both men have been taken into custody and a case has been registered. Investigators are now working to establish where the suspected narcotics originated, where they were headed and whether the consignment was linked to a wider trafficking network.
The recovered substance has been sent for forensic examination to determine its exact composition. Further legal action is expected under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, depending on the investigation and forensic findings.
Meanwhile, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected anti-social elements in and around Tipidor and Choudhurykhal villages along the Barak River in Jiribam district, security forces launched a joint operation.
The operation comes amid stepped-up efforts by security agencies to check the movement of narcotics through Manipur. Police have been relying on vehicle checks and coordination between districts to intercept suspected drug consignments moving through the state.
The seizure also highlights the continuing challenge posed by narcotics trafficking in Manipur’s hill districts, where inter-district routes can be exploited to transport contraband.
Police said the investigation would continue to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged transportation or supply of the consignment.
