Rumours surrounding the cast of the highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD sequel have sparked widespread discussion online. Speculation recently suggested that Alia Bhatt had joined director Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic and had already filmed scenes in Hyderabad. However, the makers have now addressed the reports.
Has Alia Bhatt Joined Kalki 2898 AD Part 2?
Several social media posts claimed that Alia Bhatt had been cast in a significant role in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. The rumours led to confusion among fans, with some believing she was replacing Deepika Padukone’s character, Sumathi (SUM-80), while others suggested she had been brought on board for an entirely new role.
Reports also claimed that Alia had already completed a few scenes for the film, further fueling speculation. Fans quickly reacted online, expressing excitement over the possibility of seeing Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi share screen space in the futuristic franchise.
Kalki 2898 AD Team Responds to Casting Speculation
Amid the growing buzz, a spokesperson for the film clarified that the reports of Alia Bhatt shooting for the sequel are inaccurate.
According to the spokesperson, no shooting involving Alia has taken place. They further stated that there is currently no official confirmation regarding her casting in the film. The team indicated that the rumours appear to have originated from social media posts that were widely circulated without verification.
Why Did Deepika Padukone Exit Kalki 2898 AD Sequel?
Deepika Padukone’s departure from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel was officially announced by production house Vyjayanthi Movies in September 2025. The makers stated that they had mutually decided to part ways and wished the actor success in her future projects.
Following her exit, speculation began about who would take over the important role of SUM-80. Earlier reports suggested that Sai Pallavi was being considered for the character. However, sources close to the project maintained that no final decision had been made and urged fans to wait for an official announcement.

Current Status of Kalki 2898 AD Sequel
Production on the sequel is progressing, with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan reportedly resuming work on the project. Lead actor Prabhas is yet to join the latest shooting schedule.
