Four Held, 239 kg Ganja Seized in Imphal East Operations

Among those arrested was Mataimei W. Shimray, a resident of Ukhrul district, who was apprehended while allegedly transporting the contraband in a Mahindra Bolero Pickup (Registration No. MN-01AA-5728).

In another operation at Chingarel Tejpur, security personnel arrested Ngangbam Dinesh (18) and Phuritshabam Yaiphaba Meitei (18). A TVS Apache RTR 160 motorcycle was also seized during the operation.

In a separate raid, Oinam Abung Meetei (42), a resident of Pungdongbam Makha Leikai, was arrested from his residence in connection with the case.

The combined operations led to the seizure of approximately 239 kilograms of ganja, marking a significant success in the ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking.

In a separate incident on July 5, security forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and communication equipment from the Koubru hill range near Mangjol Village, under the jurisdiction of Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district.

The recovered items included:

• One 5.56 mm INSAS rifle with a magazine;
• Twenty-four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns;
• One double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) gun;
• One country-made pistol;
• Two pompis (locally made firearms);
• One locally made hand grenade;
• Thirty-five rounds of ammunition of various calibres; and
• Two walkie-talkie sets.

Security officials said the recovery is part of ongoing operations aimed at preventing the misuse of illegal arms and maintaining law and order in the region. Investigations into both incidents are underway.
