Authorities have seized a shipment of 300 kilograms of narcotics valued at Rs 1800 crore near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) close to the coast of Gujarat. The operation was the outcome of a swift operation by the India Coast Guard (ICG) with Gujarat ATS during the night of April 12-13.

Upon seeing the ICG vessel, smugglers discarded their illegal goods and escaped over the IMBL. The cargo was found at sea and given to the ATS for additional investigation, according to the ICG.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that this operation at sea exemplifies the success of the Modi government’s comprehensive effort to eliminate the problem of narcotics. He expressed gratitude to the ATS and ICG for the operation’s success.

As part of the government’s “drug-free Bharat” initiative, officials have escalated their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations nationwide.

Following the seizure of 30.4 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 24.32 crore in Assam last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is vigorously dismantling drug cartels. He stated that the government’s campaigns against drugs will persist with relentless intensity.

According to the central government, the NCB and law enforcement agencies throughout India confiscated drugs worth Rs 16,914 crore in 2024, marking the highest amount since independence.

From 2004 to 2014, 3.63 lakh kilograms of drugs were confiscated, rising seven times to 24 lakh kilograms over the decade from 2014 to 2024. The worth of drugs disposed of during the decade from 2004 to 2014 was Rs 8,150 crore, which has surged seven times to Rs 56,861 crore over the past decade.

The Home Minister indicated that these statistics should not be viewed as a rise in drug consumption, but instead as a sign that measures are currently being implemented and success is being attained.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
