Nationwide protests over Kolkata rape and murder
Doctors and members of several medical organisations continue to protest and held rallies across the country in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The Resident Doctors Association of Government Medical College in Amritsar, Punjab, has declared the suspension of all non-essential and elective hospital services, including outpatient departments, operating theatres, and wards, commencing August 16 and continuing until further notice.

Kolkata Police arrests 19 in connection with violence at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital
Kolkata Police stated today that 19 individuals have been arrested in connection with the vandalism and violence at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the metropolis.
Miscreants vandalised the hospital’s emergency ward, nursing station, pharmaceutical store, and parts of the outpatient department on Thursday, when women across West Bengal protested at midnight.
Junior doctors of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati also protested against the rape-murder incident at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
