There are currently a few new trends in the passenger vehicle (PV) sector. The first is the sport utility vehicle (SUV) market’s extraordinary rise, and the second is consumers’ rising awareness of safety issues.
Global New Car Assessment Program, also known as Global NCAP, has assessed a number of cars sold in our nation, even though India now has its own vehicle safety testing program called Bharat New Car Assessment Program, or Bharat NCAP.
We examine five SUVs that are available in India and have the best safety ratings according to Global NCAP, since the SUV segment now accounts for about 50% of the PV market.
Tata Safari
According to Global NCAP, the new Tata Safari received five stars for both adult and child occupant protection. The adult occupant protection score for Tata Motors’ flagship SUV was 33.05 out of 34, while the kid occupant protection score was 45 out of 49.
Electronic stability control (ESC) and six airbags are standard on the Safari. The ex-showroom pricing range is between Rs 16.19 lakh and Rs 27.34 lakh.
Tata Harrier
The D8 platform from Land Rover serves as the foundation for the OMEGARC architecture, which powers the new Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. In the Global NCAP categories for adult and child occupant protection, both SUVs received comparable stars and points. Additionally, these two SUVs received a five-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP.
Volkswagen Taigun
Both the adult and child occupant protection categories at Global NCAP awarded the Volkswagen Taigun a five-star safety certification. The SUV received 42 points for kid occupant protection, but just 29.64 points for adult occupant protection.
The Taigun only comes with two airbags and ESC as standard, but the Safari, Harrier, and Nexon all come with six airbags and ESC.
Skoda Kushaq
According to Global NCAP, the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun have comparable ratings. Both are components of the India 2.0 project and are built on the MQB-AO-IN platform, which is unique to the Volkswagen Group in India.
Tata Nexon
The new Tata Nexon is another SUV from the homegrown auto major to have scored five stars in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection categories at Global NCAP, with 32.22 points in the former and 44.52 points in the latter. The new Tata Nexon comes with six airbags and ESC as standard.
