Remove ‘Bournvita’ from health drinks category: Govt
Many health drinks like Bournvita, which claim to increase the growth of children, are available in the market and on e-commerce websites. But, do you know whether such health drinks are really healthy for your children or not? Now, the Government of India has taken strict action against e-commerce companies for selling beverages in the name of health drinks.
However, now all the drinks like Bournvita will not be sold in market in the name of health drinks on e-commerce sites. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an advisory to all e-commerce companies on health drinks. It has been said that Bournvita and other beverages should not be kept in the health drinks category.

The Ministry has issued a warning to the companies saying that they should not include Bournvita and other drinks or beverages in the health drink category. The Ministry has said in the advisory that all e-commerce companies should remove the category of healthy beverages from their websites including Bournvita on their platforms.
The ministry has issued this advisory after investigation by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). Actually, NCPCR found in the investigation that there is no health drink under the Food Safety and Standards Act. In such a situation, all e-commerce companies or portals are advised to remove drinks or beverages including Bournvita from the category of healthy drinks from their platforms.

Drinks being sold in ‘Energy Drink’ category
Earlier in early April, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had directed all e-commerce food business operators (FBOs) to ensure proper assortment of all food products sold on their websites. According to FSSAI, food products licensed under ‘Proprietor Food’ are being sold under the category of dairy-based drink mixes or grain-based drink mixes on e-commerce websites under the category of ‘health drinks’, ‘energy drinks’ etc.
“National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, a statutory body constituted under section (3) of the commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 after its inquiry under Section 14 of CPCR Act, 2005, concluded that there is no “Health Drink defined under FSS Act 2006, Rules and regulations as submitted by FSSAI and Mondelez India Food Pvt Ltd,” the ministry said a notification.
