The inaugural Naroditsky Memorial Rapid & Blitz 2026 concluded in spectacular fashion in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov producing a dominant display to capture both the Rapid and Blitz titles. The three-day festival, held from July 3–5, paid tribute to the late American Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, celebrating his immense contributions to competitive chess, coaching, streaming, and the global chess community.

With a $50,000 prize fund, FIDE Circuit points, and US Chess Grand Prix points on offer, the event attracted an elite field featuring some of the world’s strongest players, including Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Aravindh Chithambaram, Vasyl Ivanchuk, and several leading content creators for a special Creator Invitational.

A Festival Honoring Daniel Naroditsky

The tournament was established to honor the memory of Daniel “Danya” Naroditsky, one of the world’s most beloved speed chess specialists. Beyond his achievements over the board, Naroditsky inspired millions through his educational videos, live streams, commentary, books, and coaching.

Hosted by the Charlotte Chess Center, where Naroditsky spent much of his professional career, the memorial combined elite competition with community events, ensuring that players of all strengths could participate alongside the world’s best.

Elite Field Delivers High-Class Chess

The Masters section featured a star-studded lineup, including:

  • Hikaru Nakamura (USA)
  • Fabiano Caruana (USA)
  • Javokhir Sindarov (Uzbekistan)
  • Aravindh Chithambaram (India)
  • Vasyl Ivanchuk (Ukraine)
  • Wesley So (USA)
  • Andy Woodward (USA)
  • Vasif Durarbayli (Azerbaijan)

The event also hosted Challengers sections and a popular Creator Invitational featuring well-known chess personalities such as Levy Rozman (GothamChess), Sagar Shah, Eric Rosen, Alexandra Botez, Andrea Botez, John Bartholomew, Aman Hambleton, Dina Belenkaya, and Danny Rensch.

Sindarov Prevails in Rapid Playoff

The seven-round Rapid Masters tournament witnessed a closely contested finish.

India’s Aravindh Chithambaram and Javokhir Sindarov both finished with 6/7, forcing a playoff for the title. Sindarov maintained his composure in the two-game blitz tiebreak, winning 2–0 to lift the inaugural Rapid trophy.

Final Standings

Blitz Crown Completes Historic Double

Sindarov carried his excellent form into the Blitz competition. After advancing through the qualifying stage, he dominated the 10-player Blitz Final, scoring an unbeaten 7½/9 to comfortably secure his second title of the weekend.

His consistent tactical precision, exceptional time management, and fearless attacking style proved too strong for an experienced field that included Wesley So, Vasif Durarbayli, and other elite speed chess specialists.

Indian Challenge Led by Aravindh Chithambaram

India’s strongest performance came from Aravindh Chithambaram, who impressed throughout the Rapid tournament.

The reigning Chennai Grandmaster defeated several top opponents on his way to tying for first place before narrowly missing the title in the playoff against Sindarov. His runner-up finish reinforced his growing reputation as one of India’s leading rapid specialists.

Although Aravindh fell just short of the championship, his performance against an elite international field stood out as one of India’s biggest positives from the tournament. Creator Invitational Adds Entertainment

Alongside the professional events, fans enjoyed the Creator Invitational featuring some of chess’s biggest online personalities. The inclusion of streamers, educators, and commentators reflected Daniel Naroditsky’s own legacy of making chess more accessible and engaging for players around the world.

Prize Fund

The inaugural Naroditsky Memorial featured a total guaranteed prize pool of $50,000, divided as follows:

  • Rapid Tournament: $20,000
  • Blitz Tournament: $30,000

The event also awarded valuable FIDE Circuit and US Chess Grand Prix points, increasing its significance on the international calendar.

A Fitting Tribute

More than just another elite tournament, the Naroditsky Memorial celebrated the enduring influence of a player whose impact extended far beyond tournament victories. Daniel Naroditsky was admired not only for his extraordinary speed chess abilities but also for his generosity as a teacher, commentator, and ambassador for the game.

With Javokhir Sindarov emerging as the first champion by winning both the Rapid and Blitz titles, the inaugural edition concluded on a memorable note. Combined with Aravindh Chithambaram’s excellent runner-up finish and the participation of many of the world’s strongest players and creators, the event successfully established itself as a significant annual addition to the international chess calendar.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
