Ruby Dhalla, a leader of Canada’s Liberal Party with Indian roots, recently made headlines with a daring declaration about her intention to deport illegal immigrants if she wins the election.
Dhalla, a contender for the leadership of the Liberal Party, aims to succeed Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister of Canada. This commitment has positioned immigration central to her campaign and has generated a blend of backing and debate.
On January 22, Dhalla officially announced her bid to replace Justin Trudeau as the head of the Liberal Party, a position that may result in the prime ministership if the party triumphs in the upcoming federal election.
Who is Ruby Dhalla?
Ruby Dhalla, the daughter of Punjabi immigrants in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has a varied background featuring beauty contests, acting, and business ventures. She identifies as a “self-made entrepreneur and businesswoman” with a strong passion for Canada and the Liberal Party.
Ruby obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry with a political science minor in 1995. In that same year, she was selected as a nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship representing Manitoba. Dhalla later relocated to Toronto, where she earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1999.
Prior to her political career, Dhalla practiced as a chiropractor and explored acting, featuring in the Bollywood-influenced movie ‘Kyon? Kis ke liye? She was the runner-up in the 1993 Miss India-Canada pageant.

Ruby Dhalla shared a video message on X and said, “I truly appreciate it, I thank God, and I am very thankful to all of you. We are close to making history by choosing the first woman of color to lead the Liberal Party and become Canada’s next prime minister.”
In a 2008 poll of parliamentary affairs by the Hill Times, Dhalla was selected as the third-sexiest female MP, and that same year, Maxim magazine placed her third in “The World’s Hottest Politicians.”
