Supriya Shrinate of the Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh, which she unsuccessfully ran for in the 2019 general elections, has been denied a Lok Sabha ticket by the Congress party. Virendra Chaudhary, a Maharajganj resident, was put forward by the Congress in lieu of Supriya Shrinate in its eighth list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Controversy Surrounding Supriya Shrinate’s Social Media Post on Kangana Ranaut’s Candidacy

The controversy surrounding Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate stems from a social media post that was removed about BJP candidate for Mandi, Kangana Ranaut.

With her purportedly disparaging social media post on actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut on Monday, Shrinate caused quite a stir on social media. Ranaut was singled out in the now-deleted post with a disparaging caption for her Mandi candidacy in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

According to Shrinate, “many people” have access to her Instagram and Facebook accounts; the “extremely inappropriate” post was made by someone from those accounts, and it has since been removed.

Supriya Shrinate Responds to Controversial Social Media Post; Election Commission Issues Show-Cause Notice

“As soon as I came to know, I deleted that post. Everyone who knows me, also knows very well that I can never make personal and indecent comments towards any woman. I wanted to know how this happened,” she said.

Supriya Shrinate received a show-cause notice from the Election Commission earlier on Wednesday for her derogatory remarks directed at Kangana Ranaut. According to the poll panel, Shrinate’s comments appeared to be against the Model Code of Conduct, which advises political parties to conduct themselves with dignity while campaigning.

The Commission has requested her response by March 29, 2024, at 5 p.m., after deeming the remarks to be “undignified and in bad taste.”

Rao Yadvendra Singh will run against Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, according to the Congress party’s eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha, which was unveiled on Wednesday. In Vidisha, it also fielded Pratap Bhanu Sharma against Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. From Damoh, Tarvar Singh Lodhi has received a nomination.

The Congress released its list of candidates for three seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, and four seats each in Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. This brings the total number of candidates the party has announced to 208.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
