The Naga commander has alleged unlawful disarming of units, irregular promotions, and jurisdictional overreach by the “Eastern Flank,” raising questions about internal discipline and control within the outfit.

May 2,2026: A serious internal crisis has emerged within the Naga Army (GPRN), with the Commander of the South East Command refusing to comply with a directive issued by the General Headquarters (GHQ), citing concerns over command integrity, alleged unlawful actions, and personal grievances.
In a formal letter dated April 24, 2026, addressed to the Longvibu (Chief) at GHQ, the South East Command chief said he was unable to act on Memo No. 30-02/Lett/LO/NA-26 dated April 22 until several key issues were addressed.

The letter raises multiple allegations:
Jurisdictional Overreach: The commander sought clarification on whether cadres of the “Eastern Flank” have the authority to operate in the Kasom Khullen area, arguing that such actions undermine the established chain of command.
Unlawful Disarming and Seizure of Weapons: He questioned reports of disarming and seizure of weapons from various units, including over 20 assault rifles from the Central National Security Command (CNSC), around 100 from the Southern Command, and 10 from the South East Command.
Irregular Promotions and Recruitment: The letter also challenges the legitimacy of promotions—including to senior ranks such as Major—and recruitment drives allegedly carried out by the Eastern Flank without proper authorisation.
Personal Allegations: The commander further claimed he was subjected to “anti-GPRN and anti-national acts” by Eastern Flank members, alleging that he was forcibly abducted and held in unlawful confinement for 45 days while serving in his official capacity.
Issued under Reference No. SEC/NA/GHQ/01/2026 from the Office of the Commander, South East Command, under the “Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim,” the letter points to deepening divisions and a potential power struggle within the insurgent group.
The open defiance of a GHQ directive is likely to escalate tensions further, raising concerns over internal discipline and cohesion within the outfit.
There has been no immediate response from the Naga Army’s General Headquarters or the office of the Yaruiwo (President), GPRN. The situation remains fluid as the internal rift threatens to widen.
