September 2, the day 5 of the Paris Paralympics 2024, turned out to be a remarkable day for India as the country won numerous medals. Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar led the way with gold, contributing to a total of 8 medals won on the day. Yogesh Kathuniya, Thulasimathi Murugesan, and Suhas Yathiraj stood out on a remarkable day for the Indian team in Paris.

Silver for Yogesh Kathuniya in men’s discus throw F56 event

Yogesh Kathuniya won his second Paralympic medal, earning a silver in the men’s discus throw F56 event on Monday, September 2nd. Yogesh achieved his best performance of the season with a throw of 42.22 meters at the Stade de France, in his first attempt out of the six allowed. This win boosts his status as a two-time Paralympic medalist, following his silver medal in Tokyo Paralympics.

Gold for Nitesh Kumar in badminton

Nitesh Kumar from India won the gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 badminton event at the Paris Paralympics on Monday, September 2nd. In a tense three-game battle against top rival Daniel Bethell of Great Britain, Nitesh emerged victorious with scores of 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.

In the highly competitive match on Court 1 at La Chapelle Arena, the top two seeds struggled against the difficult crosswind. After losing to Bethell in nine previous matches, Nitesh finally ended the streak by defeating his strong opponent and securing his first gold medal.

Sumit Antil, India’s top javelin thrower, clinched his second Paralympic gold medal in a stellar performance on Monday, September 2, in Paris. Coming into the competition as the favorite, Sumit met expectations by giving a performance that broke records. Throughout six throws, he not only won the gold medal but also broke his own Paralympic record twice, achieving an outstanding throw of 70.59 meters.

Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi Murugesan grab silver medals

Suhas Yathiraj won a silver medal in the men’s singles SL4 badminton event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Suhas competed against France’s Lucas Mazur in the gold medal match on Court 1 at the La Chapelle Arena on Monday. The French competitor, in control of the match, beat Suhas 21-9, 21-13 in 34 minutes to win the gold medal.

Thulasimathi Murugesan achieved second place in the Women’s Singles SU5 badminton competition at the Paralympics. In the final match against China’s defending champion Yang Qiuxia, Thulasimathi fought hard but in the end, she was defeated 21-17, 21-10.

Bronze in mixed team compound archery event

At the Paris Paralympics, Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar from India won the mixed team compound archery event’s bronze medal. On September 2, Monday, at the Invalides, the Indian pair won a close match against Matteo Bonacina and Eleonora of Italy with a score of 156-155.

Nithya Sri Sivan clinch bronze medal

Nithya Sri Sivan clinched bronze medal in the SH6 badminton category. She secured a convincing victory over Indonesia’s Rina Marlina, winning by 21-14, 21-6 on Court 3.
