According to sources, the government is in discussions with Elon Musk‘s X (previously Twitter) regarding multiple instances of its AI chatbot, Grok, using Hindi slang and offensive language in its replies to users. The Ministry of Information and Technology has voiced concerns to X regarding the use of such inflammatory language and will investigate the reasons behind it.
Created by xAI, an AI firm established by tech mogul Elon Musk in 2023, Grok was developed as an alternative to popular AI models such as ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
“We are in communication with them (X) to understand the reasons behind it and identify the problems. They are interacting with us,” said sources from the government.
Grok, a feature integrated into X, has captured the interest of Indian social media users due to its replies in unfiltered language and slang when pushed.
The problem became apparent when an X user’s post about his recent interaction with Grok went viral. The user inquired with the AI chatbot about the “10 top mutuals.” Since the chatbot did not provide a reply right away, the user reacted with rude remarks.

Nonetheless, Grok shocked the user with a raw, slur-filled reply and requested the individual to “chill kar,” meaning to calm down.
Not long ago, an AI researcher named Riley Goodside posted a video of Grok’s reply in “unhinged” mode. Upon continuously interrupting the AI chatbot, Grok imitated a human scream, hurled insults at him, and concluded the exchange.
The chatbot’s unrestricted method, permitting unfiltered AI conversations, differs from other AI creators such as ChatGPT. The majority of AI chatbots are created to steer clear of conversations regarding contentious subjects.
