Morne Morkel, a former South African pacer, has been chosen bowling coach for India’s men’s team, according to news agency PTI. Morkel will begin his first term as bowling coach for the BCCI on September 1.

Morkel’s first assignment will be 2-Test series against Bangladesh

Morkel’s first assignment as bowling coach will be India’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which begins September 19. This hiring reunites Morkel with India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. For three IPL seasons, the two were colleagues with the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. They also worked together as coaches for the Lucknow Super Giants.

“Yes, Morne Morkel has been appointed bowling coach of the senior India men’s team,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed to PTI.

Morne Morkel was a significant fast bowler for South Africa between 2006 and 2018. Standing at 6’5″, he used his height to generate extra bounce, making life difficult for batsmen. Morkel’s ability to bowl at high speeds while regularly hitting good spots makes him an important member of South Africa’s bowling attack.

Morne Morkel played 117 ODIs and 86 Tests for South Africa

Throughout his career, Morkel participated in 117 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 86 Test matches, amassing 309 wickets and 188 wickets respectively. Together with fellow fast bowler Dale Steyn, he established a potent partnership that frequently saw their aggressive bowling lead South Africa to victory.

Morkel was known for his dedication and hard work on the field, earning respect from both teammates and opponents. He retired from international cricket in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of skill and determination that made him one of South Africa’s finest bowlers.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
