Alleging bias in investigations, Kuki Inpi Manipur claimed authorities have failed to probe the killings of 15 Kuki-Zo individuals while acting swiftly in other cases, and called for transparent, evidence-based investigations.

July 21, 2026: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Monday accused the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of carrying out “indiscriminate, arbitrary and politically motivated” arrests of members of the Kuki-Zo community, alleging that the investigation was being influenced by political pressure.

In a press statement, the organisation alleged that the recent arrests and charges against Kuki-Zo individuals, particularly from Leilon village and the Leimakhong area in Kangpokpi district, were aimed at appeasing public and political sentiment rather than being based on an impartial investigation.

KIM claimed that central investigating agencies were prioritising quick results over a fair probe and accused the government of adopting a selective approach to law enforcement.

Referring to the deaths of six Nagas, the organisation alleged that authorities had acted swiftly in that case while failing to investigate the killings of 15 Kuki-Zo individuals, whom it claimed were killed by the NSCN-Muivah and its proxy, ZUF-K. It alleged that those cases remained uninvestigated and that the victims’ families had not received justice.

The organisation further alleged that investigative agencies were applying different standards in handling cases involving different communities, saying such an approach undermined public confidence in the justice system.

KIM called for an immediate halt to what it described as arbitrary arrests of Kuki-Zo individuals without “concrete and verified evidence.” It also demanded transparent investigations into all cases of violence, including the deaths of the 15 Kuki-Zo individuals, and sought judicial oversight to ensure investigative agencies function independently of political influence.

The organisation also appealed to human rights groups, civil society organisations and the judiciary to take note of what it described as arbitrary detentions and alleged double standards in the investigation process.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
