The Village Volunteers Coordinating Committee (VVCC) has issued a strong statement condemning the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiative to broker a cessation of hostilities agreement between the Kuki-Zo Council, Meitei civil organizations, and the government. The VVCC has rejected any such agreement, arguing that justice must be delivered first and their longstanding demand for a separate Union Territory with legislative powers must be addressed.
In the press statement released today, the VVCC unequivocally rejected any peace deal that does not prioritize the rights and interests of their community. They declared that they will not recognize any agreement that fails to include a comprehensive political resolution that meets their demands.
The VVCC warned that if the Kuki-Zo Council proceeds with signing an agreement that compromises their aspirations, they will take decisive action, including boycotting the council. The committee emphasized that their demands are deeply rooted in the Indian Constitution and fundamental rights and vowed to continue their fight until they are fully achieved.
The VVCC also urged the Kuki-Zo community to remain united in their pursuit of justice, permanent peace, and tranquility. They called on the public to advocate for their rightful political aspirations, reinforcing their determination to not be silenced until their objectives are met.
The press statement was issued by the Information & Publicity wing of the VVCC, underscoring their stance in defense of their ancestral land and freedom.
