A flight instructor jumps from a moving aircraft during a training flight in central Argentina. He Left his student to land the plane on her own.
Authorities identified the instructor as Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, 42. He died after the incident, which took place in Toledo on Saturday. The prosecutor’s office confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.
Student Lands Aircraft After Flight Instructor Jumps
Bertazzo was conducting a training flight in a Cessna 150 with his 22-year-old student, Rosario, when the incident occurred.
The student told investigators that Bertazzo said, “You know what you have to do, carry on,” before removing his headset and seatbelt, opening the aircraft door, and jumping from the plane.
Despite the shocking incident, the student remained calm and landed the aircraft safely without assistance.
Officials have launched an investigation and will examine all available evidence before determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Flying School Reports No Warning Signs
Eduardo Álvarez, director of the Flying Parrot Córdoba flying school where Bertazzo worked, said the instructor had shown no signs that he intended to jump from the aircraft.
