1990 batch IPS Arun Kumar Sarangi appointed chairman of Odisha Public Service Commission on September 27
Former acting DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi was appointed the chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) on September 27, according to a notification.
Sarangi, an IPS officer of the 1990 batch, was Special DGP (Training) and Director of the Biiu Patnaik State Police Academy in his last assignment.
“The Governor of Odisha has been pleased to appoint Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS, Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director, Biiu Patnaik State Police Academy, Odisha as Chairman, Odisha Public Service Commission for a term of six years from the date he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of sixty-two years. whichever is earlier,” the notification said.

It also said that the conditions of Sarangi’s service as the chairman of OPSC will be regulated in accordance with the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952.
Sarangi began his career as SDPO in Talcher
Sarangi began his career as SDPO in Talcher, later serving as S.P. in Rayagada, Berhampur, Jagatsinghpur, Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, and CID, CB, Cuttack.
Upon being promoted to DIGP, he was assigned to the positions of DIGP for the Northern Central Range in Talcher and DIGP for Operations in Bhubaneswar.

Upon being promoted to IGP, he was assigned the position of IGP, Law and Order in Cuttack, Odisha, and is still serving in that role. Additionally, he also has added responsibility as Director, BPSPA.
Throughout his career, Sarangi has been awarded numerous commendations and rewards. One of the most significant awards received by them includes Governors’ Medal in 2004 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007.
