IndiGo Airlines on Thursday declared the appointment of ex-NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited. The appointment depends on approval from regulators and shareholders.
A career civil servant, Kant stepped down from his position as India’s G20 Sherpa last month.
Kant served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) for six years, leading the Aspirational Districts Program (ADP), transforming numerous backward districts into high achievers, acknowledged by the UNDP.

Throughout his career, he held various significant positions, such as Director of the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and Member of India’s National Statistical Commission.
Kant significantly contributed to leading various major national initiatives, such as Make in India, Startup India, Incredible India, and God’s Own Country.
Upon his appointment as Non-Executive Director, Kant remarked, “I am thrilled to be part of the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo). In less than two decades, IndiGo has revolutionized air travel in India, setting a global standard for operational excellence and customer satisfaction.”

The airline, which currently holds more than 60% of India’s domestic market, has been swiftly growing its international presence, recently starting direct flights to locations in Africa, Central Asia, and Europe.
IndiGo reported an exceptional Q4, with net profit rising 62% year-on-year to ₹3,067.5 crore, surpassing CNBC-TV18’s projection of ₹1,892 crore. Revenue increased by 24% to ₹22,152 crore, exceeding the anticipated ₹21,710 crore.
