Amit Gupta, an engineer from Gujarat, has been arrested by Qatari officials as part of a ongoing investigation. The Indian Embassy in Qatar is actively engaged in the matter, offering support and staying in constant touch with Gupta’s family, legal representative, and officials in Qatar.
Pushpa Gupta informed the media in Vadodara that her son, Gupta, a senior employee at the IT company Tech Mahindra, was arrested by Qatari officials on January 1. His father stated that he was held by Qatar’s state security.
However, the specific allegations against Amit have not been revealed.
The Indian embassy in Qatar is informed about Amit Gupta’s arrest by Qatari officials, associated with an ongoing inquiry, sources disclosed under anonymity.
Gupta’s family has appealed to the Prime Minister’s office, asserting that he is innocent and has been wrongfully accused of data theft. They are also calling for his immediate release.
“Our embassy remains dedicated to offering all available support in this situation and is monitoring the case closely,” stated one individual, without disclosing specifics regarding the case or the allegations against Gupta.

Amit Gupta’s mother went to Qatar, where she met the Indian ambassador. She stated that the ambassador conveyed worry that, up to now, there has been no favorable progress in Gupta’s situation.
BJP MP Hemang Joshi informed the media that Gupta had been employed at Tech Mahindra in Qatar for the last decade. He was apprehended by Qatari security officials and placed in custody.
This is not the first instance of an Indian citizen being held in Qatar since 2022. Only two years back, eight ex-Indian Navy members, among them several distinguished officers, were arrested and subsequently sentenced to death in 2023.
Luckily, a Qatari court reduced their sentences, and they were ultimately released in February 2024 under the directives of the Qatari Emir.
