Amit Shah granted Indian citizenship to 188 Pakistani Hindus
Union Home Minister Amit Shah granted Indian citizenship to 188 Pakistani Hindus in Ahmedabad on Sunday under the recently enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), marking a watershed moment as the first time citizenship was conferred in Gujarat. The event came as a huge comfort to people seeking asylum in India after fleeing religious persecution in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government remained committed to providing citizenship to oppressed minorities from neighboring nations, including Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs, while also criticizing the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s appeasement policy.

Shah added, “I congratulate the families who have obtained citizenship. I’m even thrilled that this is occurring in Gujarat. CAA is a program that seeks to ensure people’s rights and justice. The Congress party did not provide citizens their rights till 2014. Lakhs and crores of people waited for their rights, but they never received justice under the INDIA bloc.”
Gujarat administration has given Indian citizenship to 1,167 people so far
Notably, the Gujarat government has given Indian citizenship to 1,167 people in the Ahmedabad district through CAA so far.
Giving a historical background to the CAA, Shah added, “Crores of Indians cannot forget the religious issues that people faced during Partition.” Congress did not provide citizenship to our people to please their voting base. Our history will never forget this. What was the fault of those who abandoned their possessions and came here to save their daughters and wives? The law is meant to protect these people. Crores of Hindus, Jain, and Sikhs will benefit from this law.”
