Prem Chand Potnuru and Manisha Patel emerged as India’s biggest stars, winning three gold medals each as the Indian contingent showcased remarkable depth at the São Paulo tournament.

August 2: India produced a commanding performance at the Brazil Para Badminton International 2026, finishing with an impressive haul of 22 medals, including nine gold, six silver and seven bronze, to underline its growing stature as a global powerhouse in para badminton.
The tournament, held in São Paulo from July 27 to August 1, saw Indian shuttlers excel across multiple categories, with standout performances in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
The country’s golden campaign was led by Prem Chand Potnuru, who emerged as one of India’s biggest stars by winning three gold medals. Potnuru clinched the Men’s Singles SH6 title and partnered Kuldeep Tanwar to capture the Men’s Doubles SH6 crown. He also teamed up with Manisha Patel to win gold in the Mixed Doubles SH6 event, completing a memorable tournament.

Manisha Patel also enjoyed a remarkable outing, securing three gold medals. Besides sharing the mixed doubles title with Potnuru, she won the Women’s Singles SH6 championship and added another gold in the Women’s Doubles SH6 competition, making her one of India’s most successful athletes at the tournament.
India’s success continued in the SU5 category, where Yashodhan Ravankole claimed the Men’s Singles SU5 title before combining with Dheeraj Saini to win the Men’s Doubles SU5 gold medal.

Another gold came through the pairing of Takar Biri and Aryan Sharma, who triumphed in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5 event.
In the singles competition, Vijender added to India’s tally by capturing the Men’s Singles SL3 title with an impressive display throughout the tournament.
India also collected six silver medals across different categories. Tulika Jadhao reached the finals in both the Women’s Singles SL3 and Women’s Doubles SL3-SU5, earning two silver medals. Dheeraj Saini finished runner-up in the Men’s Singles SU5, while Harsh claimed silver in the Men’s Singles SL3. Kuldeep Tanwar added another silver in the Men’s Singles SH6, and the pair of Vijender and Yogesh secured silver in the Men’s Doubles SL3-SU5.
India’s overall medal tally was further boosted by seven bronze medals, taking the country’s total to 22 podium finishes at the prestigious international event.
The outstanding performance reflects India’s growing depth in para badminton, where a combination of experienced campaigners and emerging talent continues to deliver consistently on the international stage. With multiple players reaching finals across classifications, the São Paulo campaign highlighted the country’s strength across disciplines rather than reliance on a handful of stars.
The Brazil Para Badminton International also serves as an important stepping stone towards upcoming global competitions, giving Indian athletes valuable international exposure and ranking points. The strong showing in Brazil is expected to boost confidence as the contingent prepares for future World Championships and Paralympic qualification events.
