Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that live-in relationships and same-sex marriages are “not in accordance with societal norms” and these could result in the breakdown of social structure.
In a YouTube podcast, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways stated that he considers live-in relationships to be “wrong” when asked about his perspective on the matter.
The minister revealed that he had previously traveled to the British Parliament in London and inquired with the UK Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister about the key challenges confronting their nation.
“They say the primary issue in European nations is that both men and women show a lack of interest in marriage and prefer cohabitation,” Gadkari mentioned.
When questioned about how this trend might impact society, the minister replied, “Without marrying, how can you have children? What lies ahead for those children? What effects will occur for individuals if the societal structure is disassembled,?” Gadkari said.
In response to the issue of whether India requires more or fewer children, the minister stated, “That’s not the question. Parents have the responsibility to bear children and nurture them correctly.”
“If you say you’ve had children for fun and then just look on without responsibility, this won’t work,” he added.
He claimed that cohabitating relationships “will ruin society”, stressing “There are specific rules in society that must be adhered to”.
He also stated that same-sex marriage would “result in the downfall of the social framework.”
When questioned if divorces ought to be prohibited in a “perfect India,” he answered, “Certainly not.” “However, cohabiting relationships are not beneficial.”
He also emphasized the significance of preserving a balanced sex ratio in the nation. “If the situation arises with 1,500 women and just 1,000 men, we might need to permit men to have two wives,” the minister stated.
