Gurugram:
The Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) Grandmasters Series Championship concluded in Gurugram late Wednesday evening at an electrifying closing ceremony graced by honorable sports minister of Haryana Shri Gaurav Gautam and Padma Sri Koneru Humpy, who praised the growing prominence of mind sports in India. Drawing registrations from over 1,50,000 participants nationwide, the two-day event brought together elite talent in chess, blind chess, and rummy, marking a significant milestone in the country’s skill-based gaming landscape.
The Haryana Sports Minister said:
Just as Haryana is recognized across the country for its contribution to sports, our athletes continue to make the nation proud on global platforms. Today, on the sacred soil of Gurugram, the journey of e-sports has begun. Haryana is truly a powerhouse of sports — if there is a land that produces medals, it is Haryana.
I congratulate the SOGF team for initiating this platform for e-sports. The players gathered here today will go on to make India proud in the field of e-sports globally.
I’m delighted to see that players from Haryana are also showing interest in this domain. I am confident that, just like in other sports, athletes from Haryana will shine and bring laurels to the state in e-sports as well.
A platform for e-sports has now been established, and Haryana will take the lead in advancing it in the coming days. Our Chief Minister, Shri Nayab Singh Saini, is taking keen interest in this initiative and will continue to support its growth in the future. The youth of Haryana will come forward in this field as well and make the state proud.
The Sports Minister felicitated the Players with Major Dhyan Chand Scholarship:
The winners and runners-up of the SOG Grandmasters Series were also given the Major Dhyan Chand Scholarship, which was conferred by Mr. Ashok Dhyan Chand (son of Major Dhyan Chand), Haryana sports minister Gaurav Gautam and World Champion Koneru Humpy.
