The Jamui case has taken a dramatic turn with the main accused, Nandan Yadav, injured in a police encounter days after a video of the alleged harassment of a minor went viral.

September 22: Amid nationwide outrage, the main accused in the alleged molestation and assault of a Class 10 girl in Bihar’s Jamui was shot in the left leg during an encounter with police on Tuesday, as the manhunt for other suspects continued.
Nandan Yadav was injured when a police team went to raid a suspected hideout near Kundar on the Jamui-Lakhisarai border to arrest him, according to the police account. He was subsequently taken to Jamui Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Police said the accused allegedly opened fire at the raiding team, prompting the police to retaliate. Nandan Yadav was hit during the exchange of fire.
The circumstances of the encounter are being examined as part of the investigation.
Following the incident, Jamui District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the Sadar Hospital, where he inquired about Yadav’s condition and sought a detailed briefing from officials on the sequence of events.
The encounter came a day after a video showing the alleged harassment of a minor girl and her male friend surfaced on social media, triggering widespread public outrage and political reactions in Bihar.

Three arrested after video goes viral
The incident reportedly took place on September 19, when the two Class 10 students were returning after visiting the Madwa hill area near Jamui.
According to the police investigation, the students were travelling together on a scooter when a group of youths allegedly stopped them on the road. The boy was allegedly assaulted while the girl was surrounded and subjected to inappropriate physical contact and harassment.
The incident was recorded on mobile phones and the footage subsequently circulated widely on social media.
The video brought the case into the public spotlight on Monday, prompting demands for immediate arrests and strict action against all those involved.
Police registered a case and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a Jamui SDPO to identify and apprehend the accused.

Three youths were arrested on Monday. Investigators subsequently continued looking for other suspects allegedly involved in the incident.
Tuesday’s raid against the remaining accused led to the reported exchange of fire in which Nandan Yadav was injured.
Police teams are continuing raids at suspected hideouts and examining the individual roles of those allegedly involved.
Video circulation triggers separate action
The circulation of the video has itself become a major concern for investigators because it allegedly exposes the identity of a minor victim.
Jamui police have initiated action against social-media users who circulated the footage and allegedly disclosed the identity of the girl.
Reports said police registered an FIR against around 120 social-media profile holders in connection with the circulation of the material.
The authorities have urged people not to share or repost the video, particularly because it concerns a minor involved in an alleged sexual offence.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken cognisance of the case and sought a report from the Bihar authorities. The commission called for prompt action and protection of the minor victim’s identity.
Rahul Gandhi demands strict action
The incident has also become a political flashpoint.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi condemned the alleged harassment and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Gandhi called for prosecution under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and questioned the safety of girls and women in Bihar.
The Congress and RJD have also attacked the state government over the incident, questioning the law-and-order situation and demanding accountability.
The ruling side has defended the government’s response, with JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha describing the incident as an isolated case while pointing to the government’s broader record on law and order.
