A man injured during a prolonged police encounter in Bihar has died, triggering widespread protests and a major road blockade by angry villagers demanding justice.
The incident involved Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village, who was engaged in a tense two-day standoff with police authorities. According to reports, the confrontation began after Tiwari became enraged over being allegedly declared mentally unstable.
During the standoff, Bharat was reportedly shouting, “I’ll show them what madness is” and claiming to be a krantikari (revolutionary), reflecting his anger toward the authorities. The situation escalated when he sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter.
Hours after announcing his surrender through a Facebook Live broadcast, Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The news of his death sparked outrage in Bilauti village. As his body was brought back home, residents gathered in large numbers and staged protests against the police.
Angry villagers placed Tiwari’s body on the Ara–Buxar four-lane highway, blocking traffic and causing major disruptions. Protesters alleged that Bharat had already surrendered before police opened fire and claimed he was shot despite laying down his arms.
Villagers are now demanding a thorough investigation into the police personnel involved in the encounter. Meanwhile, police officials maintain that Bharat was critically injured during the standoff and was rescued and rushed to the hospital following his surrender.

Authorities have been deployed to control the situation, clear the highway blockade, and restore normal traffic movement. The administration has assured that the matter is being examined.
