After her release, AISA national president Neha Bora accused the authorities of violating citizens’ rights through prolonged detentions and alleged denial of access to lawyers. She reiterated the demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s impeachment and withdrawal of the SIR exercise. Dipke remains under preventive custody.

New Delhi, October 17, 2026: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke remained under preventive arrest on Saturday, a day after Delhi Police detained him ahead of the party’s planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest at Connaught Place.
Meanwhile, All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was released after police completed the required formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.
According to police, action against Dipke was initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). He was scheduled to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on Saturday.
Police said Dipke had been served two notices directing him not to visit Central Park in Connaught Place for the planned demonstration but allegedly failed to comply. He had also reportedly furnished a peace bond of ₹50,000, undertaking not to disturb public order for one year.
The detention came amid heightened security ahead of demonstrations demanding the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

‘Law and order being flouted’: Neha Bora
Speaking to ANI after her release, Bora accused the authorities of violating the rights of ordinary citizens by detaining protesters for extended periods.
“Law and order are being flouted in every possible way. Ordinary citizens are treated as if they were hardened criminals,” she said, questioning the legal basis for keeping detainees in custody overnight and releasing them only the following morning or evening.
Bora alleged that the latest protests had exposed a pattern of detentions in which demonstrators were picked up during the day or evening and held for hours without clarity about when they would be released.
AISA National President Neha Bora has been released after being detained ahead of Delhi’s Tiranga March on October 16.
Speaking after her release, Bora questions overnight detentions and alleges that police delayed her access to legal counsel for several hours. She also criticises restrictions in Central Delhi and demands action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to SIR.

She also criticised the restrictions imposed across central Delhi, arguing that roadblocks and disrupted routes were inconveniencing ordinary residents.
“The people of Delhi cannot even breathe a sigh of relief; whichever route they take to get to work, they find it blocked,” she said.
Reiterating the protesters’ demands, Bora called for the impeachment of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and an end to the SIR exercise, arguing that electoral processes must protect citizens’ voting rights.
She further alleged that police initially prevented her from consulting a lawyer after taking her into custody.
“They demanded my name, address, and other details. For a long time, they wouldn’t even let me speak or consult with a legal advisor,” Bora told ANI.
She said lawyers had spent five to six hours trying to reach her and were allowed to meet her only after contact was established.
Dipke whereabouts concealed
The CJP has accused Delhi Police of taking Dipke to an undisclosed location and withholding information about his whereabouts from his family, lawyers and party colleagues.
In a post on X, the party alleged: “@abhijeet_dipke has been kidnapped by @DelhiPolice. It has been more than 10 hours since he was picked up but until now, neither his parents, nor his lawyers & not the CJP team have been given any updates about his location.”
The allegation has intensified the controversy surrounding the detention, with the party demanding information about the legal grounds for the action and access to its founder.
Police, however, have cited alleged non-compliance with notices and concerns over public peace as the basis for initiating preventive proceedings against Dipke.
The competing claims have placed the handling of protest organisers and access to legal counsel at the centre of the dispute.
Detentions follow action against other CJP leaders
Dipke detention follows the arrest of fellow CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to Tihar Jail for five days over allegations that they violated their peace bonds and entered Jantar Mantar, which had been denotified as a designated protest venue.
The CJP has been mobilising support against the SIR exercise and demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
The planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ demonstration was intended to carry the party’s protest into Connaught Place, but police action against its founder has added another flashpoint to the confrontation between the authorities and the demonstrators.
With Dipke in preventive custody and Bora released after questioning, the controversy has widened beyond the original demands over electoral rolls to include allegations concerning detention procedures, access to lawyers and the exercise of police powers against protesters.
