Eight Israeli soldiers die in southern Lebanon during clashes with Hezbollah militants
Israel announced on Wednesday that eight of its soldiers died in southern Lebanon during clashes with Hezbollah militants following the beginning of an Israeli invasion into the country. Israel has promised to respond to Iran’s missile attack, leading to increased tensions in the region.
The Israeli army did not give any specifics on how their soldiers died but had previously reported engaging in close-quarters combat with Hezbollah. The confrontations took place during the second day of Israel’s incursion into southern Lebanon.
Israel releases footage of troops entering Lebanon
Today, the Israeli army shared a video of its 36th Division going into Lebanon. Currently, two Israeli military units are operating in the southern region of Lebanon with the goal of breaking down Hezbollah’s network in the vicinity.

Hezbollah stated that its militants had clashed with Israeli forces in Maroun al-Ras, a Lebanese town near the abandoned Israeli town of Avivim, which is around one mile away. The militia said it attacked Avivim with rockets.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, published a short video message before the Jewish New Year, expressing sympathy to the families of Israeli soldiers who died in Lebanon.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a brief video message ahead of the Jewish New Year, which begins at sunset, offering his condolences to the families of Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon.
“We are in the middle of a tough war against Iran’s axis of evil, which seeks to destroy us,” he said. “This will not happen.” He promised to bring back the hostages in Gaza and the displaced residents from fighting with Hezbollah in the north to their homes, and “guarantee the eternity of Israel.”

UN Secretary General condemns Iran’s attack on Israel
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, speaking at an emergency session of the Security Council, condemned Iran’s attack on Israel. “As I did regarding the Iranian attack in April — and as should have been clear from yesterday’s condemnation — I strongly condemn yesterday’s massive missile strike by Iran on Israel,” he said. “These attacks do nothing to advance the Palestinian cause or alleviate their suffering.”
